What an honor to create the art for the Rip Curl WSL Finals and also have an adjoining art show to share my latest series of work.
As a surfer, gliding along a beautiful wave has, and always will be, my ultimate Happy Place. My other Happy Place is spending time smearing paint around in my studio. Both the ocean and making art are my escapes from this crazy society we live in. The rest of the world no longer exists when I'm in that salt water or mixing paint on my palette. This art show is about seeking out those places of refuge that stoke the fire in your soul and let you live in the moment... your Happy Place. -Erik Abel
Happy Place will feature all new original work that blurs the line between painting and sculpture. Abel has pushed outside of his comfort zone to explore new concepts and techniques, creating some absolutely unique art pieces inspired by the ocean and natural materials.
